Tree Care Tips

A fresh cut Christmas tree is a living thing. With a little care, your Mount Gabriel tree will stay fresh and fragrant throughout the festive season. Here are our top tips for tree care.

1. Fresh Cut

If you're not putting your tree up immediately, store it in a bucket of water in a cool, shaded place (like a garage). When you're ready to bring it inside, make a fresh cut of about 1-2cm off the base of the trunk. This opens up the pores and helps the tree drink water.

2. Water, Water, Water

Your tree will be very thirsty, especially in the first few days! A fresh tree can drink up to 4 liters of water a day. Check the water level in your stand daily and never let it go dry. If the water level drops below the trunk, the sap will seal the pores and the tree won't be able to drink.

3. Keep it Cool

Heat is the enemy of a fresh Christmas tree. Try to position your tree away from direct sunlight, heat pumps, heaters, and fireplaces. The cooler the room, the longer your tree will last.

4. Safety First

Check your Christmas lights for worn cords or loose connections. Always turn off the tree lights when you leave the house or go to bed. Never use candles on or near a Christmas tree.
